SubjectLOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Clarion University senior setter Laura Subject is the PSAC West Volleyball Athlete of the Week after helping the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 week last week that included a key 3-2 win at rival California (Pa.) Friday.

For the week, Subject averaged 12.27 set assists per set, 2.82 digs per set and 0.82 kills per set while helping Clarion defeat Juniata (3-0), Cal and Seton Hill (3-0), all on the road. All three averages were above her season averages in those categories.

Subject’s best match came in the come-from-behind 3-2 victory at California Friday when she helped lead the Golden Eagles out of a 2-0 hole by recording 61 set assists, 17 digs, five kills and a block. She was also the key reason Clarion, which avenged its lone PSAC loss of the season with the victory, had five players in double digits in kills.

Less than 24 hours after the win at Cal, Subject recorded 44 more set assists to go with eight digs and two kills in the win over Seton Hill. She also had 30 assists, two kills, six digs and a block in the 3-0 win over Juniata Tuesday.

On the year, Subject ranks second in the PSAC with 11.53 set assists per set and seventh with 0.43 service aces per set while adding 2.77 digs and 0.69 kills per set for Clarion, which is 25-2 overall and 16-1 in the PSAC West heading into Tuesday’s night’s PSAC West match at IUP. The Golden Eagles hold a one-game lead over Gannon for first place in the PSAC West as they try for their second straight PSAC West title and their third PSAC West title since 2010.

NOTES — Subject’s 11.89 set assists per set in PSAC play leads the conference … After Tuesday’s match at IUP, Clarion hits the road again over the weekend for a pair of key PSAC West showdowns. The Golden Eagles are at Mercyhurst at 7 p.m. Friday and at Gannon at 2 p.m. Saturday … This is the second time this season Subject, who was the PSAC West Athlete of the Year last season, has been named Player of the Week and the third time this season the Golden Eagles have had a Player of the Week.
