Arnold David Hewston

 title=Arnold David Hewston, 91, of Wallingford, formerly of West Haven for 60 years, beloved husband of Lois Rodgers Hewston, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and foster parent, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Masonicare in Wallingford.

Dave was born in Oil City, PA., June 19, 1923, a son of the late Arthur L. and Winifred Lane Hewston.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Victory Medal and Campaign Ribbons for both the Asiatic- Pacific and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theaters.

He had been employed as a machinist with F. Torello & Sons and later operated his own business, ADH Appliance Repair for many years.

Most recently he was a maintenance employee with Sam’s Club in West Haven for nearly 20 years.

Dave was a 70 year life-member with West Haven VFW Post 9422, and a Retired Captain with the West Haven Police Auxiliary, where he served for 25 years.

Dave was Deacon Emeritus (life-time) with the First Baptist Church, in West Haven.

In May of 2009 he proudly received his diploma as a high school graduate, that achievement having been put off by his war service and the busy years of family life that followed.

Besides his wife Lois, he is survived by four sons, David (Nancy) Hewston, of West Haven, Melvin (Ruth) Hewston, of Wallingford, Bruce Hewston, of King George, VA, and Paul (Kathryn) Hewston, of Deep River, CT; a sister, Margaret (David) Morrison, of Sceneca, PA; 12 wonderful grandchildren; five very special great-grandchildren, and a cherished great-great-grandson; two foster children, Kent Fraiser of NY, and Dennis Cobb of North Haven, CT who have remained in touch with the family.

He was predeceased by a foster son, Keith Fraiser who lived in NY.

The funeral will be held at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Friday, at 12:00 noon.

Burial with Military Honors will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Haven.

Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10:00 to 12:00.
