Charles David Deitz

Deitz Photo 1Charles David Deitz, of Clarion, passed away on November 5, 2014 at UPMC Northwest. He was 60 years of age.

Born on March 2, 1954 at Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Florida, he was the son of Donald W. and Edith M. (Smith) Deitz. After graduating from Clarion Area High School in 1972, Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably in the U.S. and Germany. He later attended Clarion State College.

He was well-known in the Clarion area as the owner of Deitz Sandblasting and Contracting, a firm he grew and operated for more than 30 years. He also loved his homestead, the Stubborn German Farm, where he and his wife were beekeepers and raised beef cattle and chickens. He and his Australian Shepherd, Dyna, kept a close eye on the farm and the animals by driving around in his John Deere Gator.

Charles was honored to be a deputy wildlife conservation officer with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and had just received a 25-year recognition from the PGC for his service. He also served Paint and Clarion townships as an emergency management coordinator for many years as well as a volunteer firefighter with various departments. Charles was active with the Autumn Leaf Festivals in Clarion and was a member of the Clarion Lodge of the F&A Masons. He enjoyed farming, motorcycling, collecting model trains, and tinkering with almost anything electronic, mechanical, or computer-related and was seldom seen around Clarion without his trademark pipe.

He is survived by his wife, Elise Deitz, of Clarion; his mother, Edith Deitz, of Clarion; his son, David Deitz (Robert Batchlor), of Richmond, Virginia; his daughter, Laurie Deitz, of Pittsburgh; his brothers, Jeffrey (Michelle) Deitz, of Clarion and Gerald (Kathy) Deitz, of Clarion; his sisters, Jeanne (Fred) Foster, of Clarion, and Linda Deitz, of Clarion; his aunt, Alice (Gus) Rosteck, of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his four-legged constant companions Dyna, Lady and the other animals on the farm.

Charles was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Ashleigh Deitz.
