Frederick E. “Gene” Vincent

Frederick E. “Gene” Vincent, age 88, of Tionesta, PA, died on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Titusville Area Hospital. He was born August 8, 1926 in Bradford, PA, son of the late Harry Vincent and Dorothy (Potts) Vincent Stuck.

On February 25, 1949 at the Tionesta Presbyterian Church he married Ruth “Leona” (Borchert) Vincent, who died November 1, 2006. Gene was employed at the Forest Hills of Tionesta as a bartender for many years then and he and his wife owned and operated the popular restaurant/bar from 1980 until 1987. He was previously employed by the Tionesta Water Supply Co., then by Tionesta Boro, Jenks Twp, Marienville and Pleasantville Boro for many years as the water and wastewater operator.

He served his county during WWII in the US Army and was at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded two Purple Hearts during his military service. He was a life member of the Tidioute VFW Post #8803. While in the military and stationed at Tacoma, Washington, he played softball to help boost the morale and welfare of his fellow comrades.

In 1995 he had the opportunity to spend two weeks at sea aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) during a Tiger Cruise with his granddaughter Jaime.

Surviving are a son, James M. Vincent and his wife Vicki of Tidioute, PA. A daughter, Rebecca S. Vincent of Marienville. Four grandchildren, Jessica Vincent of Grand Valley, PA; Jacob Vincent of Youngsville, PA; Adam Vincent of Tidioute; Jaime A. Vincent of Tionesta who was Gene’s caregiver for the past several years. There are three great-grandchildren. A brother, Earl G. Vincent of Pleasantville, PA. A sister June Schwabenbauer and her husband Bill of Olean, NY. A brother-in-law James Borchert and his wife Beverly of Oil City, PA. A sister-in-law Esther Yakelis of Pittsburgh, PA. Many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Robert B. Vincent.

There will be no public visitation, all services held will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta, PA. Condolences may be sent by email to [email protected]
