Irene L. (McIntyre) Bauer

Irene L. (McIntyre) Bauer, 86, formerly of Wallaceville passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Crawford County Care Center surrounded by family.

Irene was born in Berwyn, Illinois on January 17, 1928 to Edward S. McIntyre and Opal R. (Millard) McIntyre Hartman.

Irene graduated in 1945 from Sunville High School as salutatorian of her class. She was employed for forty years in many different capacities including as a waitress at several local restaurants and an assembler at Sylvania, MFG, and other manufacturing companies.

She attended the Wallaceville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, cards and especially music. She loved to sing, dance and yodel. She loved all animals, both domestic and wild, especially her dog, Maxie Baby. She was devoted to her children and treasured family gatherings. In her later years, she formed special relationships with her caretakers at Crawford County Care Center.

Irene is survived by son, Thomas W. Bauer of Wallaceville; daughters, Karen B. (C. Donald) Cogley of Columbus, OH; Kathryn J. (William R., Jr.) Spencer of Meadville; and Diana R. Smith of Meadville and Cochranton; grandsons, C. Zachary (Andrea) Cogley of Marquette, MI, Philip A. Cogley of Columbus, Travis A. Bauer of Pittsburgh, granddaughter, Fawn T. Carpenter and great granddaughter Laila Amani Williams. She is also survived by brother, Edward S. (Ida) McIntyre of Englewood, FL and their family. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Eric R. Smith, Erica R. Smith, Katrina L. Smith and her two daughters, Kylie and Melina, William C. (Ciara) Spencer, Benjamin (Melissa) Spencer, Wendy (Sam) Enterline and their children. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Samuel M. Hartman; son-in-law, Eric R. Smith; grandson, Thomas “TJ” Bauer, Jr.; and companion, Ralph B. Black, Jr.

Friends and family may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 North Washington Street, Titusville, PA 16354 on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Jenson, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Meadville officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Venango County Humane Society,P.O. Box 1045 Oil City, PA 16301 or a humane society of their choosing.
