Shirley B. Elicker

Member_140258Shirley B. Elicker, 82, of Elicker Road, Emlenton, Scrubgrass Twp., Venango Co., passed away late Wednesday evening, November 12, 2014 at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.

Mrs. Elicker was born in Wilkinsburg on August 16, 1932. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Ona Pettit Black.

She was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in education from Slippery Rock University.

Mrs. Elicker taught kindergarten and fourth grade for more than 25 years and retired from the Penn Hills School District in 1990.

She enjoyed quilting and crafting. Shirley was an avid college football fan and especially enjoyed watching Pitt and Penn State games. She had been a long time active member of both the Plum Community Church and later the Scrubgrass Stone Church in Emlenton. Shirley was a talented soloist and often sang at weddings and church and community events.

She was married in Wilkinsburg on November 19, 1955 to Harold “Dutch” Elicker. He survives. Also surviving are three children, G. Reed Elicker, Ronald D. Elicker and his wife, Theresa, and Lee Ann E. Carr and her husband, Todd, all of Emlenton; six grandchildren, Ben Elicker of Mercer, Sadie Cohlhepp and her husband, Justin, of Knox, Anna Carr, Russ Carr, Melissa Elicker, and Daniel Elicker, all of Emlenton; a great grandson, Carter Cohlhepp; a sister, Carol Fraley of Pittsburgh; two sisters-in-law, Jean Jacobs of Grove City and Virginia Flynn of Pittsburgh, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Ona Blair.

A funeral service for Mrs. Elicker will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday at the Scrubgrass Stone Church, 258 Stone Church Road, Emlenton with the Rev. Dennis Barger, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Scrubgrass Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Scrubgrass Stone Church, c/o Marlene McNany, 106 Quick Lane, Emlenton, PA 16373.
