Clarion University’s Howsare Earns PSAC — West Honor

howsare sackLOCK HAVEN, Pa. –Cl arion senior All-America defensive end Julian Howsare (Altoona) was named yesterday as the PSAC-West “Defensive Player of the Week” for his performance in Clarion’s 41-35 overtime loss to Kutztown on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

It was his second P.O.W. award of the season.

Howsare, a 6-3, 255-pound, senior, defensive end, closed his Clarion career with another outstanding game for the Blue & Gold. Howsare posted 8 tackles, 6 solo, 2 sacks for -15 yards, blocked a punt, caused a fumble, had 2 qb hurries and 2 broken-up passes in the game.

His first qb hurry led to an interception by Cory Lauer in the first quarter which led to an Eagle field goal try. On Kutztown’s next possession Howsare blocked a KU punt that was recovered at the Bears 21 and led to a Clarion touchdown.

With the scored tied at 28 and Kutztown on the Eagle 13 yard line and 1:31 remaining, Howsare sacked KU’s quarterback, stripped the ball at the 20 and Clarion recovered at the 24 — leading to Clarion’s go-ahead score (35-28) with only 24-seconds left in the game.

every honor he gets.”

A team captain in 2014, Howsare ended the season leading the team with 86 tackles, 16 tfl’s (-69 yards), 11 sacks (-58 yards), 5 pass break-ups, 3 fumbles caused, 3 blocked kicks, 3 qb hurries and 1 interception.

The 2013 PSAC-West “Defensive Player of the Year”, Howsare was a Third Team All-American in 2013 and 2012. He posted 83 hits, 18 tfl’s, 10 sacks, 4 break-ups, 4 blocked kicks, 2 int’s and 2 fumbles caused in 2013 and 58 stops, 16 tfl’s, 14 sacks, 2 blocked kicks and 3 break-ups in 2012.

In his outstanding career Julian finished with 256 tackles, 57 tfl’s (-270), 39 sacks (-220), 10 blocked kicks, 14 break-ups, 9 fumbles caused, 3 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries in 43 games.

The son of Karyn Stalter and John Howsare, he is a Sports Management major and is a Clarion Scholar Athlete.
