Clarion University’s Subject named Daktronics Atlantic Region Volleyball Player of the Year

SubjectLOCK HAVEN, Pa. (EYT) — Clarion University senior setter Laura Subject was named the Daktronics NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Player of the Year Wednesday in voting by the region’s sports information directors.

Subject, who was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year last week for the second consecutive season led Clarion to back-to-back PSAC West titles and to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. The Golden Eagles face Edinboro in the opening round of the Atlantic Region at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Wheeling Jesuit.

Joining Subject on the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region first team is junior Libero Morgan Seybold.

Subject, who has been a first-team Daktronics All-Region selection and has been All-Region in all three seasons she has been a starter (she was an AVCA All-Region selection as a sophomore and repeated last season), leads the PSAC and ranks 17th in the Division II in set assists per set with 11.36. She is the third player in school history to record over 4,000 set assists in a career and has 4,009 heading into Thursday’s match with Edinboro. She has also been instrumental in the development of Clarion’s young group of hitters that includes PSAC West Freshman of the Year Gabrielle Olson as well as fellow freshmen Taylor Braunagel and Catherin Ferragonio.

Seybold paces the PSAC and the Atlantic Region and ranks fourth in the nation in digs per set with 6.37. This is the second consecutive year she has been named first-team Daktronics All-Region.
