FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – According to Franklin-based State Police, a Shippenville man was arrested for suspected DUI while at a DUI hearing at Venango County Courthouse, on Liberty Street, in Franklin, Venango County.

Police say sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, a 40-year-old Shippenville man arrived at the Venango County Courthouse for a preliminary hearing for a previous DUI charge and was observed by multiple witnesses and courthouse staff to be allegedly under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

During an interview by another Venango County Agency, the City of Franklin Police Department was contacted and made aware of the situation.

Through an investigation, the known man was observed driving to the courthouse in his personal car, entering the courthouse where he was under constant supervision, and was then arrested for Driving Under the Influence, police say.

He was transported to UPMC Northwest where he consented to a blood draw and then was returned to the Franklin Police Department for processing.

Police say after he was processed, he was still allegedly under the influence of alcohol to the degree he could have been a danger to himself.

Police say the known man called his attorney for a ride to the Courthouse Annex to finish the previous interview.

A preliminary hearing for this DUI will be scheduled for a later date.

As of November 25, charges have not been filed against the suspect.
