Edward L. Henninger, Jr.

Member_140735Edward L. Henninger, Jr., 65, of Oil City, President Township, died Friday afternoon, November 28, 2014 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Big Run, Clearfield County on October 22, 1949 to the late Edward L. and Olita Ione (Askey) Henninger.

He was a graduate of DuBois High School and attended nursing school at Clarion University. He graduated from college in Arizona after earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Mr. Henninger served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 until 1973 and served aboard the USS Henley and the USS Forrestal.

He lived in Arizona for twenty-four years and also in Franklin County, Virginia for a short time. He was a member of the American Legion in Virginia where he volunteered as a cook; and was also involved with the Franklin County Historical Association. Edward was active with animal rescue groups throughout much of his life.

Mr. Henninger was of the catholic faith.

He enjoyed traveling and the companionship of his rescued pet dog, Debbie.

Mr. Henninger began working for Dr. Steve Greenberg’s practice, what is now known as the Laurel Eye Clinic. He then became a trauma and cardiovascular nurse and assisted in the operating room at both Scottsdale Memorial and Banner Hospitals in Arizona.

He was married in Oil City on July 16, 2014 to George P. Weaver, and he survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Joe Henninger and his wife Peg of Punxsutawney and Eric Henninger of Arizona; and three sisters, Ande Henninger of Chandler, Arizona, Sherry Groves of Gilbert, Arizona, and Rose “Daisy” Long of Oil City. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.

There will be no visitation and services for the family will be private.

The Hile-Best Funeral Home in Seneca, Cranberry Township is completing funeral arrangements.
