Otis-Perry-1417611050Otis F. Perry, 93, a resident of Highland Oakes, died early Tuesday morning, December 2, 2014, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born August 11, 1921 in Fertigs, he was a son of the late Walter and Wilda Shepard Perry.

He served in the US Army from March 1943 to December 1945 and became a decorated WWII veteran. During the war he was a member of the 82nd Airborne and was instrumental in freeing the Wobbelin concentration camp near the city of Ludwigslust, Germany. Otis landed in Normandy from a glider, and also fought in Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received many ribbons of honor.

Otis married the former Mildred M. Daum on August 9, 1947. They made their home at 255 Stanley Road, and there they raised their two sons. Otis and Millie enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing together and made many trips to Canada until Millie’s health declined. On one occasion, Otis shot a moose.

He retired from the Oil City Glass Plant after 30 years. During their retirement, Otis and Millie spent their winters in Florida, near one of their son’s family, until Millie’s passing in 1982. He and his wife attended the Fertigs Gospel Tabernacle.

In 1984 Otis married Maxine Hepler and lived at 12 Rich Street. He and Maxine attended the First Church of God in Oil City.

Surviving are his two sons, James (Sherry) Perry of Freeport, Florida and Richard (Donna) Perry of Oil City. In addition to his second wife, Maxine, he is survived by her children, Sue Maidlow (John) of Anderson, IN, Stanley (Kim) Hepler of Franklin and Clair (Julie) Hepler of Oil City; four grandchildren, Matthew (Debbie) Perry of Bel Air, MD, Stephen (Joan) Perry of Marietta, GA, Michelle (Curt) Elliott of Lynchburg, VA and Ryan (Lacy) Perry of Fertigs and eight great grandchildren, River, Ellabay, Mariner and Navy Perry of Fertigs, Hannah, Natalie and Emily Perry of Bel Air, MD and Michael Perry of Marietta, GA. Also surviving are Maxine’s four grandchildren Andrew and Amy Hepler of Oil City, Hanna Hepler of Franklin and Katie Maidlow of Anderson, IN.

Surviving also is a brother, Gerald Perry of Oil City and a sister, Lula Mae Kockler of Franklin.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Otis was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Glass and two brothers, Lloyd Perry and Shurl (Bud) Perry.

Friends and family will be received from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 3:00 pm with Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery.
