Clarion U’s Seybold Named 3rd Team Daktronics All-American; Subject Honorable Mention

Seybold;WAYNE, Nebraska (EYT) — A pair of Clarion University women’s volleyball players were honored as Daktronics All-Americans Wednesday including the school’s first-ever third-team selection, junior Libero Morgan Seybold (pictured on left).

Joining Seybold in being honored on the teams, which are voted on by the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors, is senior setter Laura Subject, who was an Honorable Mention selection.

Seybold is the first Clarion women’s volleyball player to earn first-, second- or third-team All-American honors by either Daktronics or the AVCA, while Subject joins Melanie Bull (2002 and 2003), Jackie Hill (2003), Colleen Sherk (2003), Vicky Gentile (2007) and Kellie Bartman (2010) as Golden Eagles who have earned Honorable Mention All-American honors since 1996.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Morgan and Laura,” Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills said. “Both have worked extremely hard and are very deserving of these honors. Most importantly, both are very quick to acknowledge how vital it is to have teammates that push them to be at their best as they train. Morgan and Laura have represented the program and the university in such a positive light, and I couldn’t be more excited for them.”

The PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year this season, Seybold led the conference in digs per set and ranked third in NCAA Division II with 6.41. Her 763 digs this season were the third most in a season in school history, while her 806 last year set the school record. She also has the fourth-most career digs at Clarion with 1,699 and was named a first-team Daktronics
All-Atlantic-Region Libero for the second straight year while also garnering first-team Daktronics All-Atlantic Region honors and first-team PSAC West honors this season.

Subject, who was the Daktronics Atlantic Region Player of the Year, a first-team AVCA All-Atlantic Region selection and the PSAC West Athlete of the Year for the second straight year, finished the season ranked second in the PSAC and 20th in the country in set assists per set with 11.27 while also adding 0.39 service aces per set, the 12th-best mark in the PSAC. A three-time All-PSAC West performer, Subject also is a two-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection. She finished her career third in school history with 4,065 set assists, seventh with 163 aces and 16th with 1,005 digs. Her 1,426 set assists in 2013 rank fourth in school history while her 1,341 this year are the ninth most in a season at Clarion.

The duo helped the Golden Eagles go 30-5 on the season including 20-2 in the PSAC West winning a second consecutive PSAC West title and the third PSAC West title for Clarion since 2010. The Golden Eagles also earned their sixth consecutive NCAA Division II playoff berth and their 11th in the past 13 years advancing to the Round of 32 for the second straight season and for the third time since 2010, when they moved onto the school’s first appearance in Elite Eight.
