Concettina (Connie) Runzo

OI1442868342_runzo1Concettina (Connie) Runzo, 86, a resident of Fort Lauderdale, FL and formerly of 3 Pinoak Circle, Oil City, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2014, in Holy Cross Hospital after a 2 ½ month battle from complications from her surgery in September.

Connie was born on July 4, 1928, in Jamestown, NY. She is the daughter of Michael A. and Mary A. (Galati) Rubino, both deceased. She moved to Oil City at a very young age. She graduated Oil City High School in 1946 and attended Welch’s Business College. She worked at the Oil City Variety Store and Oilwell, a Division of United States Steel Corp in Oil City, PA. While in Oil City, she did various types of volunteer work. She was an active member of St Stephen’s Church. She was also, a member of Belle Lettre Club, YWCA and the Hospital Auxiliary. After moving to Florida, she became an active member of St Pius X Church where she was a Social Committee volunteer, Bingo volunteer and belonged to the Busy Hands knitting group, which made items for various charities such as the veterans and nursing homes. She also worked on election days at the voting polls. However, her most important role was a loving, nurturing and caring mother and grandmother. Connie was the type of person that her children’s friends would call “Mom”. Some still do.

She married Thomas J. Runzo on January 18, 1958 and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2010.

Connie and Tom had the opportunity to live with their daughter and her family from the time their granddaughter, Paige was in preschool until she went off to college. Paige was very blessed to have both grandparents there loving and spoiling her during her youth. After Tom passed and Paige went to college, Connie moved to Ft Lauderdale to enjoy the warmer winters and more importantly, to enjoy her new grandson Baron. Less than 2 years after that, she had another granddaughter, Mila to enjoy.

Connie is survived by a daughter, Michele A. Kulling, her husband, Mark (from Drexel Hill, PA), and their daughter, Paige (from Charlottesville, VA), and a son Thomas M. Runzo and his wife Blair (from Ft. Lauderdale), and their son, Baron and their daughter, Milana (Mila). Connie is also survived by nephews, nieces, great niece and nephews, one Aunt and many cousins.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Josephine, her sister, Carmela Dudzic and her husband, John, and her brother, Sebastion (Buz).

Friends and family will be received Monday, December 8 from 6-8 P.M. in the Reinsel Funeral Home in Oil City, PA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Stephen Church on Tuesday, December 9. at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, Presiding.

A Memorial Mass will be held at her church, St Pius X, in Ft Lauderdale, on Jan 1.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
