Bauer PhotoFrank Bauer, well-known Clarion resident and business owner, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 6, 2014 at 81 years of age.

Born on November 9, 1933, in Lucinda, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Ollie Marie (Fitzgerald) Bauer. In 2005, he married the former Barbara Cope, who survives.

Frank honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1954 until 1956 during the Korean Conflict and received several commendations for his service.

Frank was the owner of Country Trails Bus Company and Frontier Enterprises with offices in Clarion and Youngsville. He operated his companies for 37 years until he retired in December of 2005. Frank was known for donating his own driving tips to the Shriner’s Hospitals. He enjoyed traveling with the groups he served and seeing their many destinations around the country.

Since he retired, Frank kept busy by helping his step-daughter Sissy, and his friend, Diane, deliver newspapers, his daily afternoon trips to Wendy’s at 3:30, riding (racing) scooters with his brother Jerry, and taking rides with his dog, Bandit, through the Clarion Cemetery. Frank was proud of all his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, bragging to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed watching and supporting his grandson, Michael, in his racing endeavors. If you knew Frank, he would call and talk to you.

Frank was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and a past member of the Moose and the VFW. He attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion.

Frank is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons and their wives, Jeff & Ellen Bauer of Clarion, and Todd & Melissa Bauer of Miola; his daughter, Terri Mansfield of Pittsburgh; his three grandchildren, Michael Bauer, Matthew Bauer, and Zachery Bauer; his two brothers, Gerald Bauer of Shippenville, and Lawrence Bauer of Lucinda; his two sisters, Winnie Durante of Florida, and Lorraine Schmader of New York; numerous nieces and nephews; his step-children, Mark & Diane Bell of Clarion, Saundra & Matt Henry of Leeper, and Jessica Stuck-Bauer of Clarion; his two step grandchildren, Tabitha VanDyke and Lana Bell and his four step-great-grandchildren, Ethan & Hayley VanDyke, and Aleena & Dakota Frantz.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Ruth “Bootie” Bauer, and Mary “Cookie” Bauer; and a brother-in-law, Orlando Durante.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday with a wake service at 8:30 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by the Honor Guard from American Legion Post 66 of Clarion at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Main Street in Clarion, with Father Monty Sayers presiding. Interment will be in the Perry Chapel Cemetery.
