Robichaud & Vest Win Events for Eagles at Zippy Invite on Saturday

AKRON, Ohio — Clarion senior James Robichaud (Annapolis, Md.) teammate Collin Vest (So. Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) had winning performances for the Golden Eagle Men’s Swimming and Diving team on Saturday night leading the team to fourth place in team scoring after Day 2 of the Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron University.

Held at the Ocasek Natatorium, IUP leads the team scoring with 1259 points, Bloomsburg is second with 1255, Niagara is third with 903 and Clarion fourth with 827 points. Six teams are participating.

James Robichaud had an outstanding performance in winning the 200 yard freestyle. He swam an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:40.65 to win the event.

Teammate Collin Vest won the 1 meter diving scoring 285.45 points. Vest capped a strong weekend after placing second on 3 meter yesterday.

Also scoring in the pool for the Golden Eagles in individual events were Jon Haycock (So. Indiana) who was 5th in the 100 breaststroke (58.14), Travis Myers (Jr. Butler) was 5th in the 100 back (53.07), Ben Spencer (So. Tunkhannock) was 9th in the 400 I.M. (4:09.82), Ian Lindsey (So. Cabot/Knoch) was 10th in the 100 breast (58.98), Matthew Peiper (Fr. Washington/Trinity) was 11th in the 100 breast (1:02.70) and Shayne Custodio (So. Berlin, Md.) was 13th in the 100 back (55.33).

Clarion divers also continued to contribute. Nick LArmon (Sr. Lemoore) was 4th in the 1m with 247.10 points and Jackson Gray (Fr. Canton, Oh./McKinley) was 6th with 224.35 points.

The 200 medley relay team of Travis Myers, Jon Haycock, Jake Smallwood and Luke Simpson finished 6th with a time of 1:33.97, while the 800 free relay team of Jake Smallwood (Fr. Aliquippa/Hopewell), Jon Haycock, Ben Spencer and Luke Simpson finished 4th with a time of 7:03.57.
