Thumbnail (2)Frank “Hunter” Wright, 93, of Cooperstown, passed away at his residence on Monday, December 8th at 1:00 a.m.

Born July 30, 1921 in Cooperstown, Hunter was the son of the late Frank G. and Susie Beatty Wright. He married the former Shirley Wygant on February 23, 1957, and she preceded him in death on December 25, 2010.

Hunter was a WWII Army Veteran having served from February 26, 1947 until August 24, 1947. While in the Army, he was the recipient of the Army Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

Hunter was a farmer and retired in 1991 after working as the Township Supervisor for more than 38 years. For many years, Hunter was also the caretaker of Sunville Cemetery. He was a very active member of the Cooperstown and Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Departments, and also helped with bingo and fire department dinners. He was also a member of IOOF Lodge #510 in Edinboro, a life member of Wesley Grange, and a life member of Lucky 13 CB Club. Hunter was also a member of the Chapmanville Community Church.

Hunter is survived by his 4 sons, Robert H. Wright and his girlfriend, Yvonne Homison, of Harrisville, Hunter L. Wright and his wife, Leigh, of Parker, CO, Paul A. Wright and his wife, Marcia, of Salibury, NC, and Richard L. Wright and his wife, Lola, of Cooperstown; and his daughter, Charlene Nay and her husband, Ri, of Tuscon, AZ. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents and wife, Hunter was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Lee and Howard Wright; and his sister, Margaret Plumer.

Family and friends of Hunter will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Thursday, December 11th from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services for Hunter will be held at the Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 12th with Rev. Glen VanCise, pastor of the Chapmanville Community Church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunville Cemetery.

In Hunter’s memory, his family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Venango VNA Foundation — 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin, PA 16323, and/or the Cooperstown or Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Departments.
