Member_141334[1]Laura V. Hartzell, age 90, of Venus, died Tuesday morning, December 16, 2014 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City following a sudden on-set illness.

Born April 3, 1924 in Rockland, she was a daughter of the late Jesse B. and Blanche I. Milford Mays and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She married Donald C. Hartzell, Sr. on April 13, 1942. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1987.

Laura was a homemaker who enjoyed puzzles, sewing, quilting and reading.

Survivors include three sons: Larry D. Hartzell and wife, Janet, of Oil City; John H. Hartzell of Venus and Jerry L. “Jake” Hartzell and wife, Kathy, also of Venus; two daughters: Carrie Sharrar and husband, Larry and Sally Hartzell, all of Venus; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Hartzell of Seneca; six grandchildren: Laurie Atanasio of Georgia; Cindy Fugate of Alabama; Brian Hartzell and wife, Robin, of Oil City; Donald C. Hartzell, III of Reno; Shelby Hartzell of Knox and Nicole Hartzell of Callensburg.

Laura is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Betty Shick of Cranberry.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter: Donald C. Hartzell, Jr., Kahle Hartzell and Dolly Mae Hartzell; one great great granddaughter, Estella Herndon and three sisters and their husbands: Bernice and Russell Snyder, Clara and Donald Smith and Virginia and Jack Mahle.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 in the funeral home with Pastor Phillip Thomas officiating over the service.

Interment will follow at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Shippenville.
