Richard L. “Dick” Alden

Member_141336[1]Richard L. “Dick” Alden, 80, of Cranberry died peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning, December 16, 2014.

He was born on May 28, 1934 in Van, the son of the late John and Weltha (Cotterman) Alden.

Dick grew up in Van, and attended Rockland schools.

Mr. Alden was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church.

Dick enjoyed playing golf, camping, and attending fairs. He was a true handyman, and enjoyed building and fixing a variety of projects. He had his own wood shop and he also built his own home. He enjoyed spending time with his family and made sure that they knew how much he loved them. His legacy will always be remembered by his family. Dick also enjoyed the companionship of his beloved pet dog and best friend, Chloe, whom he lovingly referred to as “Lolly.”

He was employed as a set-up man on the steel straightening production line for Franklin Steel for thirty-three years.

He married the former Shirley A. Perry in Oil City on April 16, 1955, and she survives.

Also surviving are three children, Curtis Alden and his wife Monica of Seneca, Deborah Jack and her significant other, Steve Blum of Cranberry, and Michelle Fry and her husband Ronald of Belmont, N. Carolina; eight grandchildren, Nicole Good and husband Luke, Alisa Alden, Jennifer Jack, Jessica Warner and husband Jason, Jared Jack, Leah Arlington and husband Dave, and Ethan and Morgan Fry; four great-grandchildren: Ashley, Hudson, Samuel, and Anna Moore; and his former son-in-law, John Jack of Cranberry.

Also surviving is his step-brother, Vern Alden and his wife Janet of North Carolina; his sister, Helen Irwin of Butler; numerous nieces and nephews; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Billie Perry and Doris and James Nagy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Alden; two brothers, Donald and John Alden; his sister, Pauline Martz; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Graydon and Urla Perry.

Friends and family will be received Thursday (Dec. 18th) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home Friday (Dec. 19th) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William E. Hastings, pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Heckathorn Cemetery in Seneca.
