Barbara Payne Thomeier

Barbara Payne Thomeier, 85 of Oil City, passed away Tuesday at Sugar Creek Station after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Oil City, PA., she was the daughter of the late Marion B. & Helen Stubler Payne.

She attended St. Joseph High School, and graduated from Oil City Hospital School of Nursing in 1950.

Barb worked at the Oil City Hospital, the Neuropsychiatric Institute of New Jersey, and the Polk State School and Hospital where she subsequently retired after 20 years.

She was a life long member of St. Joseph’s Church.

She belonged to the St. Joseph’s Church Rosary Society, Christian Women’s, and had volunteered at St. Elizabeth Center. Mrs. Thomeier had also been a member of the Scarlet Ladies Red Hats, Monday Club,

Gallivanters Club and the Belle Lettres.

Her retirement years were largely spent traveling, doing volunteer work, and spending time with family and friends.

Barbara is survived by a daughter Miriam (Mimi) Allshouse & her husband Stephen of NJ, Four Sons: Robert (Kaythe) Thomeier of Erie, Dr. William (Ellen) Thomeier of Pittsburgh, Joseph (Debbie) Thomeierof New Jersey, and Daniel (Gayle) Thomeier of Cleveland.

In addition, she will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Andrew & Daniel Allshouse, David Thomeier, William Thomeier Jr.(Cassy), Sara, Sam, and Elizabeth Thomeier, Jason Vandegrift(Jessie), Jennifer Vandegrift, Harrison McCall, Rachel & Lucas Thomeier, Kevin & Mark Olin, Her great grandchildren: Brooklyn Thomeier, Isabella and William Thomeier III, Damien Vandegrift, Anthony & Brianna Vandegrift-Burch

She is survived by one brother-in-law Eugene Hale of Oil City, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Helen Payne Hale, and dear friends Shirley Duda and Jodie Olin.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Church with Fr. Justin P. Pino, Presiding.
