Thumbnail[1]Frank J. Baker, 94, of Franklin, passed away at 2:27 p.m. at UPMC Northwest in Seneca on Wednesday, December 17th.

Born June 22, 1920 in Bredinsburg, Frank was the son of the late Samuel Earl “Toad” and Anna Morrison Baker. He married the former Elnora A. Baker on March 18, 1942, and she preceded him in death on April 30, 1999.

Frank was a WWII Army Veteran having served from August 24, 1944 until August 19, 1946. While serving in the Army, he was the recipient of a Good Conduct Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and a WWII Victory Ribbon.

Frank was retired in 1976 from Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company where he had worked for 34 years as a machinist. He also worked part-time for Securitas at the Joy Chain Plant, and was a Sandycreek Township supervisor for more than 30 years.

Frank enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, reading and playing cards. He was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the VFW, and belonged to the Franklin Moose Club and the BPOE Elks #110. He was instrumental in helping to organize the Sandycreek Fire Hall and was a member of the Sandycreek Fire Police.

Frank is survived by his daughter, Frances E. Miller and her husband, Garrett, of Franklin; his 9 grandchildren, Traci Singer and her friend, Jim Burton, of Perryopolis, Matthew Baker and his wife, Angela, of Connelsville, Bronson Baker, Leslie Schave and her husband, Gary, of Fayetteville, NC, Lawrence Baker and his wife, Courtney, of Jackson Center, Bruce A. Woods and his wife, Debra, of Franklin, Robin R. Nelson of Franklin, and Austin Miller and his wife, Laura, of Franklin; his 21 great-grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Lynn Baker of Jackson Center.

Frank is additionally survived by his brother, Merle Baker of Franklin; his brothers-in-law, Lester L. Baker, Jr. of Toledo, OH, and James C. Baker of Reedsville, PA; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Baker of Franklin, Ruth Hawkins of Cochranton, Helen Harris of Harrisville, Edith Beach of Oil City, Bonnie Baker of Toledo, OH; and Linda Baker of Reedsville, PA.

In addition to his parents and wife, Frank was preceded in death by his son, Lester Earl Baker; his sister, Beulah Willyoung; his brothers, Arthur, Eugene, Eldred, DeWayne and Freeman Baker; his sisters-in law, Wilda Baker, Martha Greathouse and her husband, Junior, Mary Stright and her husband, Reed, and Rita Baker; his brothers-in-law, Lou Wayne Willyoung, Vernon Harris, William Beach, and Charles Hawkins; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lester and Edith Baker.

Family and friends of Frank will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Sunday, December 21st from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, December 22nd at 11 a.m., with Captain and Mrs. Danny Alverio of Aliquippa Salvation Army, officiating. Interment will be in Morrison Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the local V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
