H. Dale Silvis, Jr.

H. Dale Silvis, Jr., 69, of Cranberry, went home to be with Jesus for Christmas on Thursday morning, December 18, 2014.

He was born in Oil City on January 6, 1945, to the late Henry D. and Hazel (Donaldson) Silvis.

He was a 1962 graduate of Cranberry High School and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Mr. Silvis was a member of the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church.

Dale was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, and sports. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.

He began a career in the oil industry with Quaker State, where he worked for fifteen years as a crude oil buyer and a traffic manager. He then became self-employed in the oil industry, owning and operating McLan, Inc. He later worked for American Refining, before owning H&D Logistics and Cranberry Oil and Gas. He was most recently employed as a crude oil buyer for Ergon.

He was married in the Van United Methodist Church on September 5, 1964 to the former Norene E. Goodman, and she survives.

Also surviving are two children, Jodi Sue Silvis-Eaglesham and her husband John of Cranberry, and Henry “Hank” Silvis, III and his wife Kimberly of Cranberry; four grandchildren, Henry Silvis, IV, and Tristan, Justin, and Lilly Silvis.

He is also survived by a sister, Joan Silvis Fike and her husband John of Vermont; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Miller, Vonda Hartmann, and Judy Hovis and her husband Sam; two brothers-in-law, Larry Zimmerman and Gordon Goodman; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Bette Zimmerman; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Miller and Jake Goodman.

A memorial service will be held Monday (Dec. 22nd) at 11:30 a.m. in the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church, 2844 Rte. 257 in Seneca, with Pastor Janor Bestwick officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca E.C. Church, 2844 Rte. 257, Seneca, PA 16346; or to the Heartbreak Hotel Hunting Camp, c/o Chuck Weaver, 780 Whitehill Rd., Cranberry, PA 16319.
