PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) — Captain Bernard J. Petrovsky, Commanding Officer, Pennsylvania State Police, Troop C, Punxsutawney, has issued the following advisory to holiday travelers:

Captain Petrovsky is asking drivers to use good common sense while traveling during the New Year’s holiday period.

The New Year’s holiday is very popular with people partaking in libations. Over imbibing alcohol is always a concern; however, where over-indulging is mixed with the operation of a vehicle, our concerns become much greater.

Driving Under the Influence is extremely dangerous on many fronts and ultimately against the law.

Governed by the alcohol level in your blood, you could spend jail time for a first offense DUI.

Law Enforcement officers all have recollections of alcohol-related incidents turning lives of innocent people upside down.

The best way to ensure your safety as well as other travelers you come in contact with, is to abstain completely.

Those that think they control what they drink often still over indulge.

Use a designated driver, use public transportation, or just don’t drink at all.

Whatever choice you make will definitely make you feel better at the end of your celebration knowing you made the correct choice.
