Charles-Allio-1420398829[1]Charles J. Allio, 89, of 175 Merrill St, Franklin, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born July 30, 1925 in Kelletville, he was a son of the late Joe and Emma Harkins Allio.

Chuck attended Oil City schools through the 8th grade, but quit to go to work to help support the family after his Dad enlisted in the Sea Bees. Then after 25 years, he went back to school and got his GED in 1968.

Growing up he spent most of his summers on his grandfather’s farm at Newmansville.

He worked at Burdick’s Bakery on Petroleum St, then the Glass plant until going into the Army Air Corps on September 18, 1943 until October 5, 1945. He took basic training at Greensboro NC and Gunnery school at Kingman AZ. Then overseas training at Ardmore OK. He then went to the 8th Air Force in England and then to the 15th Air Force in Italy. He flew 34 combat missions on a B-17 Bomber out of Italy. He saw both Mt Etna and Mt Vesuvius erupt while in Italy.

Home again, he worked at the Glass Plant, Manion’s Steel Barrel, the Oil City Water Department and Street Department. He then attended National Trade Electrical School in Kansas City, returning to Pennzoil where he worked for 42 years.

His hobbies were hunting, woodworking, golfing and traveling all over the United States and Europe. He had a very interesting life so he wrote his life story and titled it “Just Part of Growing Up!”.

On February 18, 1946 he married the former Hazel Daman, they had 65 ½ years together. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2011.

Surviving are five children, Pam Steinbach and husband Craig of Ash Fork AZ, Debbie Perrine and husband Tom of Corinth TX, Jeffrey Allio and wife Kathy of Cochranton, Mary Beth Dunn and husband Steve of Oil City, and Ellen Tokely and husband Andy of Burgaw NC; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, Avonell Schwindt of Erie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by3 sisters and one brothers, Margarete, Velma, Doris and Dick.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday in St. Stephen Church with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Full military honors accorded by the VETS Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Elizabeth Center, 311 Emerald St, Oil City PA 16301.
