Thumbnail[1]Isabelle R Shay, 91, of Rocca Way, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 4th, at Sugarcreek Station where she had resided.

Born October 8, 1923 in Franklin, Isabelle was the daughter of the late John S. and Hattie E. Young Burk. She married Thomas L. Shay on July 10, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 2000.

Isabelle was a child care worker for many years, and had also been a house parent at Greer School in New York. Isabelle was a very faithful member of Donation Hill Community Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed reading her Bible, bird watching, and especially spending time with her family.

Isabelle is survived by her brother, Leonard Burk, Sr. and his wife, Donna, of Cochranton; her sister-in-law, Jackie Burk of Franklin; and her brother-in-law, Homer Shay and his wife, Ruth, of Cooperstown. She is also survived by many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Isabelle was preceded in death by her daughters, Shirley Ann Shay, Linda Elaine Shay, and Tomasene Lorraine Shay; her brothers, Daniel, John, Clifford, Glenn and Sherman Burk; her sisters, Eva Reynolds, Lucy Lepley, Esther Schell, Helen McCarty, and Margaretta Crawford.

A funeral service for Isabelle will be held on Wednesday, January 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the Donation Hill Community Church with Joesph P. Martin, Jr. , pastor of Cooperstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Cooperstown Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to AsceraCare Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Drive, Ste 14, Erie PA 16505; Donation Hill Community Bible Church; and/or the charity of one’s choice.
