John-Holquist-1420399051[1]John O. Holquist, 88, of 72 Rockwood Ave, Oil City, died at 10:30 pm Saturday, January 3, 2015, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.

Born October 3, 1926 in Oil City, he was a son of the late J. Oscar and Hilda Marschinske Holquist.

Mr. Holquist was a 1944 graduate of Oil City High School.

He served during WW II, 1 year in the Army Air Corps and 1 year in the US Army.

Mr. Holquist was employed by GTE for 39 years.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Mr. Holquist enjoyed reading Civil War history.

On July 14, 1951, he married the former Ruth Netzler, who preceded him in death on May 19, 2007. In March 2009 he married the former Margaret Roberts, who preceded him in death on January 20, 2010.

Surviving are two children, Karen Holquist of Oil City, and Ken Holquist and wife Cheryl of Carlisle; and a grandson, Nathan Holquist of Choctaw OK.

Also surviving are five brothers, Robert Holquist, Gary Holquist and L. Thomas Holquist, all of Oil City, Donald Holquist of Cary NC, and Richard Holquist of Poland OH; and one sister, Ann O’Neil of Van.

In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Dorothy Rowland, Carol Holquist and James Holquist.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm and on Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 am.

Funeral service will be conducted in Christ Lutheran Church at 11 am Wednesday.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
