William H. “Bill” Philips

Member_142101[1]William H. “Bill” Philips, 91, a retired Knox businessman, formerly of Knox and St. Petersburg, died Monday afternoon, January 5, 2015 at Clarion Hospital.

Born in 1923 in Pittsburgh, Bill was the son of the late Grant and Mary Walther Philips.

Bill was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theatre of Operations. For more than a quarter century Bill owned and operated Blauser Electric, Plumbing, and Heating Company in Knox. He was a 60 year member of the Edenburg Masonic Lodge #550 F&AM in Knox, The Consistory Valley of New Castle, the Zem Zem Shrine in Erie, and had been a long time member of the Knox Lions Club. He was a member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church. Bill enjoyed golfing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy J. Mills Philips, who died on October 20, 1993.

He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Slemenda of Indianapolis, IN; a son, William H. Philips Jr. of Knox; three grandchildren, Stephanie Olcay and her husband, Ilhan, of Atlanta, GA, Lauren Slemenda of Reno, NV, and Robert Slemenda of Indianapolis, IN.

Bill was preceded in death by his second wife, Mary Shirey Philips and a sister, Helen Grubbs.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove Street, St. Petersburg, from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Lori Danielson, pastor of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Park, South Hills, Pittsburgh.
