Clair Blaine McEwen

Clair Blaine McEwen, of Stoneboro, formerly of Sandy Lake, passed away peacefully at 6:36 a.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a brief illness. He was 80.

Born Dec. 12, 1934, in Fredonia, he was a son of Clair Z. and Kathryn McCutcheon McEwen.

He was a graduate of Mercer High School.

In his early years, he farmed in Mill Creek Township and also worked at Cooper-Bessemer of Grove City, then retired from PPG of Meadville in 1994, after 26 years of service.

He was of the Protestant faith.

An Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.

For many years, he enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. After retirement, he enjoyed golfing year-round, here and in Florida, and had several holes-in-one. He also enjoyed watching football, both college
and professional teams. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and socializing with friends.

He married Bernadette Dunphy on Nov. 22, 1978; she preceded him in death in September 2006.

Survivors include: two daughters, Valerie K. Sachse and her husband, Bruce, Sandy Lake; and Marcia D. Mahlon and her husband, Mark, Greenville; a son, Kevin C. McEwen, and his wife, Tonia, Sandy Lake; a stepdaughter, Bernadette Lampkins, and her husband, James, Orlando, Fla.; a stepson, Thomas G. Babinecz, and his wife, Shellie, Great Falls, Mont.; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, James D. McEwen, LaPort, Ind.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Nancy (Barton) White; and a sister, Esther Mae Nagel.

Service: 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Terry L. Greenlee, retired minister, officiating.
