Daryl M. “Red” Davis

Member_142394[1]Daryl M. “Red” Davis, 82, of Airport Rd., Emlenton, a retired Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School teacher and well-known area lay minister, went to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, January 13, 2015 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.

Red was born in Sheakleyville, Mercer County, on November 16, 1932. He was the son of the late J. Daryl and Mary Wilson Davis.

He was a 1950 graduate of Harrisville High School. Red was a talented athlete and attended Colorado State University in Greeley, Colorado on a baseball scholarship. He graduated in 1957 with a business degree from Grove City College and earned his teaching credentials from Geneva College in 1962. Mr. Davis taught business and history at Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg for more than 30 years, retiring in 1993. He also coached Jr. High Basketball at A-C Valley for 18 years. Red was a devoted Christian and an active member of Bethany Crossroads E.C. Church in Knox and had been a Sunday School teacher at Bethany Crossroads E.C . Church and Old Zion United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He was a long time member of the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at the Emlenton Truck Plaza and had served as coordinator of Prayer Breakfast for many years. He was a member and past president of Men with Vision in Southeast Venango County. He served on the board of directors for the Western Pennsylvania Bible Conference and was a member of Gideons International and participated in the Venango Co. Prison Ministry. He traveled on mission work teams for building projects in Paraguay, Budapest, and Ukraine.

Red enjoyed working around his home and was an avid reader of the scriptures and history. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Joan E. Hogue Davis, whom he married in Harrisville on August 30, 1957. Also surviving are three children, G. Scott Davis and his wife, Lisa, of Van Alystyne, TX, Karen Davis of Grove City, and GySgt. Stephen Davis USMC, ret. and his wife, Jennifer, of Ridgeland, SC; four grandchildren, Matt, Mark, Zachary, and Alyssa Davis, all of Van Alystyne, TX; four brothers, Walt Davis and his wife, Joan, of Maggie Valley, NC, Glenn Davis and his wife, Clarice, of Estes Park, CO, Jim Davis and his wife, Marlene, of Hot Springs, AK, and Ralph Davis and his wife, Barbara, of Columbia, SC; a sister-in-law, Betty Hoffman and her husband, Fred, of Barkeyville, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by a brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday and at the Bethany Crossroads E. C. Church, 721 Crossroads Church Dr., Emlenton, PA 16373 on Friday from 10 – 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Chris Lewis, church pastor, officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the church by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard of Franklin. Interment will be in Zion-Union Cemetery, Emlenton.
