OI462779019_cook001[1]Edward F. Cook, 92, of Parker, Pa., passed away early Thursday (1/15/2015) morning at the residence of his son, after a brief illness.

Born in Parker, Pa., on May 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Burton and Gertrude Steele Cook. Ed graduated from the former Parker High School.

After high school he worked at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. as a lathe operator and gear cutter for machinery. Ed served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 as an Army Medic, serving in the European Theatre. He earned 3 Bronze Stars in his campaigns on D-Day in northern France, Rhineland and the Ardennes offensive in the Battle of the Bulge.

After being honorably discharged he worked for Hale Electric of Pittsburgh building lines for Central Electric.

Later he worked for Koppers, before retiring in 1977 with National Transit Pipeline as a station engineer at the Parker Pump Station.

Ed was a member of the Park Hill Church of God in West Freedom. A member of the American Legion and VFW Post 7073 in Parker, Pa. Ed enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing with his grand daughter Jamie. Ed was also well known for his custom “Dime On” Pins.

Ed was married to the late Mona J. Barger Cook, on January 2, 1948, and who passed on January 19, 2011.

He his survived by a son Terry (Janie) Cook of Parker, PA, three grand daughters: Jamie (Adam) Jazwenski of Clarks Mills, Pa., Jennifer (Brad) Dittman of Parker, PA, and Sarah (Eric) Wolbert, of Parker, PA, one grand son: Drew (Donna) Edwards of Parker, Pa., six great grand children: Madelyn, Chloe, Brody, River, Jennifer, Brittany and Jonathon, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by a sister: Florence Martin McKisick, and a brother; Claussen Martin.

Friends will be received on Saturday the 17th at the Park Hill Church of God (Lime Plant Rd.) in West Freedom, Pa., from 11am-1pm & 3pm-5pm.

Members of the VFW and American Legion Posts of Parker, Pa., will be conducting military honors at the Church at 1pm.

Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation at 5pm from the chruch with Pastor Eric Mitchell officiating.

Private interment will take place at the Perryville Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Ed’s honor to the Park Hill Church of God for the Youth “Whitehall Summer Camp Scholarship Program”.
