Thumbnail[1]Nancy S. Hutz, 84, of Franklin, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 14th at UPMC Hamot in Erie.

Born May 15, 1930 in Davis, WV, she was the daughter of Charles Gray and Ella Parsons Smith. She was first married to Merle Hoover, who preceded her in death in 1978. She then married John J. Hutz on January 15, 1983, and he survives.

Nancy worked for many years for Attorney Frank Riddle as his legal secretary prior to her retirement. She was a very active member of the Grace Lutheran Church. She and her husband, John, spent much time traveling and enjoying ocean cruises. Nancy enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially Sunday dinners.

In addition to her husband, John, Nancy is survived by her 4 sons, Todd Hoover and his wife, Pamela, of Franklin, Leland Hoover and Scott Hoover, both of Franklin, and David Hoover of Oil City; her grandchildren, Benjamin Hoover of Franklin, Sarah Hoover of Grove City, Joshua Hoover and his wife, Jara, of California, Kayla Hoover and Eric Hoover, both of Oil City. She is also survived by her 2 step-sons, Verne Hutz and his wife, Wendy, of New Jersey, and Paul “PJ” Hutz and his wife, Barbara, of Portland, Oregon; and her step-grandson, Adam P. Hutz.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Smith.

The family will be receiving friends at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19th in the Chapel at St. John’s Episcopal Church. A Memorial Service for Nancy will be held in the Chapel at 2 p.m., with Vicar Randall Frenz officiating.

In honor of Nancy’s memory, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Franklin Public Library — 421 12th Street, Franklin and/or the Grace Lutheran Church — PO Box 325, Franklin PA 16323.
