Norma Jean Shaffer

Scan00021[1]Norma Jean Shaffer, 92, of New Bethlehem, (Beautiful Lookout), died early Thursday morning, January 15, 2015, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Born on December 5, 1922 in Oak Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Elva V. (Hoch) Fritz. On August 7, 1943, she married Eugene H. “Grundy” Shaffer and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2010.

She was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. She attended the Mount Zion Community Church. She enjoyed being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also known for her good homemade pies and she enjoyed listening to the big bands, especially Glenn Miller. She was the last surviving member of her family

Norma is survived by two daughters, Linda Walter and husband Doug and Judy Reddinger and husband Bill, both of New Bethlehem; a son, Terry Shaffer and wife Diane of New Bethlehem; six grandchildren; Dave Walter (Jodie) of New Bethlehem; Nate Walter (Kristie) of Fairmount City; Carrie McIntire (Jeff) of Mayport; Angie Burrows (John) of Oviedo, Florida; Laura Hilliard (Bob) of South Bethlehem; and Bill Reddinger (Joyce) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, twelve great grandchildren; Patrick Walter, Jessica Walter, Cameron Peebles, Nathan Walter,Brooke Walter, Madeline Burrows, Ethan McIntire, Brendan McIntire, Blake Burrows, Jace Hilliard, Kendayl Hilliard and Elias Reddinger.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Neal Fritz, Myron Fritz and Gale Fritz, and three sisters; Claire Hoffman, Verna Fritz and Helen Snyder.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Ryver officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County.
