Richard L. Cochran

COCHRANrichardRichard L. Cochran, 79, a resident of 148 Electra Lane, Cooperstown died peacefully at 6:10 PM Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in UPMC-Hamot Medical Center in Erie; following a period of declining health.

He was born February 17, 1935 in Union City, a beloved son of the late: Hugh William Cochran and Marguerite Shreve Cochran.

He was a 1954 graduate of Union City High School.

He proudly served his country during peacetime as a member of the U.S. Army, where he earned rank of SP4; prior to his honorable discharge. He later re-enlisted with the United States National Guard; earning rank of Staff Sergeant E-6.

Mr. Cochran had worked as a Maintenance Supervisor of an apartment complex in Colorado for a number of years.

Mr. Cochran was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Sleepy Hollow Golf Club’s Senior League. He also enjoyed travelling and playing poker with his buddies.

He was a life member of both the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department and Utica Volunteer Fire Department; and was a longtime member of the Franklin Moose Club and the Franklin B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #110.

He was married September 30, 1955 to the former Sally A. Carson; who preceded him in death on July 8, 2012.

He is survived by a daughter: Brenda Aue and her husband Robert of Cooperstown and by one son: Richard L. Cochran, Jr. and his wife Susan of Brookline, NH; in addition to five grandchildren: Jamie Gyke and her husband Kevin, Eric Cochran and his wife Kristi, Hana Cochran, Mitchell Cochran and Megan Cochran.

Also surviving is his brother: William Cochran and his wife Jean of Canon City, CO; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

In accordance of his wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Private family interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
