James N. Hoffman

e5cf808218495fceJames N. “Jim” Hoffman, 70, of Clintonville passed away January 18, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Born October 26, 1944 on his family farm outside of Clintonville he was the son of the late Norman M. Hoffman and the late Anna Margaret Cassedy Hoffman.

Jim graduated from Victory Joint High School in 1962, he then enlisted in the Army Reserves from 1962 to 1966.

He was active member in the American Legion in Clintonville for many years, marching in Clintonville Parades with the other local veterans.

Jim married Sharon Strotman on December 11, 1965 at the First Church of God in Parker, she survives.

Jim retired from Cooper Bessemer in Grove City in 2000 after working there for 35 years, he was a mill wright and also worked in the maintenance department.

Before starting at the Bessemer Jim worked for Bill Bell plastering many homes throughout the area. He also worked for Brown Construction doing work on 1-80 interchange in Clintonville.

During times of lay off from the Bessemer Jim worked various jobs, he worked at the Two-Mile State park building the damn and also at Quaker State Refinery in Emlenton and drove school bus for Moore’s when they had the bus garage.

After retiring he continued his education at New Castle School of Trade, graduating as a certified Electrician.

Jim was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Clintonville, he recently received his 50 year membership pin.

Jim was a past member of Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department.

Jim was a avid outdoors man and reader. He loved to read novels and westerns.

Jim cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

Jim loved to tinker on the family farm and enjoyed doing the day to day farm work. He had a knack for rebuilding lawn tractors and getting them running again.

He will be missed at the Linda’s and Barbs restaurant for his morning coffee with all his buddies.

Jim is survived by his wife Sharon of Clintonville his children; daughter Michele Day and her husband Jeff of Kennerdell and their children Levi Day and his wife Jessica, Kayle Wice and her husband Brian and Nicole Day, son Monty Hoffman and his wife Akemi of Clintonville and their children Miles and Anne, daughter Melanie Martin and her husband Tom of Barkeyville and her daughter Ashley McDowell , son Clinton Hoffman and his wife Tricia of Clintonville and their children Emily, Ayman and Mackenzy. Three great-grandchildren Jaymee, Madilyn and Annaayka. Two brothers Robert Hoffman and his wife Cheryl of Franklin, David Hoffman and his wife Pat of Clintonville and a sister Peggy J. McElhinney of Clintonville. A brother in law Don Griffin of Clintonville One Uncle survives Lyman “Jack” Cassedy of Kennerdell. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousin.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janet Griffin who passed away September 5, 2009, and a brother in law Mike McElhinney who passed away August 10, 2009.

Family will receive friends at Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton Street Clintonville on Wednesday January 21, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9.

Funeral services will take place Friday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Union Presbyterian Church 409 Emlenton Street Clintonville PA with a hour of visitation prior to the funeral service at 11:00.

The Rev. Anthony Catullo will be officiating from the Union Presbyterian Church along with Rev. Kenneth Hughes, close friend of Jims assisting.

Interment will take place at the Clintonville Methodist Cemetery, Clintonville Pa.

The family suggest memorial donations be made to the Union Presbyterian Church or the UP Church Youth Group, 409 Emlenton Street Clintonville PA 16372 or to a charity of ones choice.
