Man from India Allegedly Attempts to Burglarize Brookville Liquor Store Following Bet

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — According to Brookville Borough Police, a 24-year-old man from India was arrested for Burglary January 16 after allegedly attempting to break into the liquor store on Main Street in Brookville, Jefferson County.

Police say the incident occurred around 11:18 p.m. when 24-year-old Vinaykumar Shaileshkuma Joshi, of Badoli, India, had allegedly gone to the liquor store and tried to knock on the door to obtain some liquor.

After there was no answer, Joshi allegedly went back to his unidentified friend’s car.

Joshi’s friend allegedly told him that if he came back to the car with liquor he/she would pay Joshi $100, but if Joshi did not return with liquor he would have to pay his friend $100.

According to police, Joshi allegedly went back toward the liquor store wearing a handkerchief over his face and attempted to gain entry to the liquor store.

Joshi’s friend then allegedly went down the street and called 911 to report what Joshi was doing.

Police were dispatched to the area of the liquor store for the alleged burglary in progress.

As police arrived at the scene, a person matching the description of the suspect was seen walking west bound on Main Street.

Joshi was stopped by police and advised to put his hands on the hood of the patrol car.

According to police, Joshi was then handcuffed and placed in the back of the car.

Joshi was confined to the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.

The following charges have been filed at Magistrate Bazylak’s office:

– Burglary — Not Adapted for Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present (Felony 2)
– Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/ Physical Offense (Misdemeanor 3)

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for February 2, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.
