On Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, State Police in Punxsutawney received a report from a fisherman of human remains that were located below the bridge near the village of Hamilton in Perry Township, Jefferson County.
The victim was determined to be Chet Allen Haddow, 33-years-of-age, of Punxsutawney.
On Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, information uncovered by investigators lead to the arrest of 32-year-old Michael Christopher Shugars of Punxsutawney.
Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Shugars allegedly shot Haddow during a drug deal.
Police say Shugars then drove Haddow to his Punxsutawney home and cut up his body with a chainsaw. Shugars then allegedly scattered the body parts throughout Jefferson and Indiana counties.
Detectives say numerous tips from the public led to the arrest of Shugars.
On Monday, Shugars agreed to a plea deal in which he plead guilty to charges including Third-Degree Murder, Burglary, and Robbery.
Shugars learned his fate on Wednesday when he was sentenced to 40 to 80 years in State Prison.
