OI1792778527_fikejack001Jack Allen Fike, 67, of 5301 Dearfield Dr. Fairview, PA. and formerly of Oil City died at 9:44 A.M. Thursday Jan. 22, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 1, 1947 in Sugarcreek Twp., PA. He was the son of the late Clair Charles Fike & Frances Romain Case Murray. He was the step son of John Murray and Mary Florek.

Jack attended Lincoln Elementary School and was a 1965 Graduate of Oil City School.

He entered boot camp in 1965 and had served on the USS Randolph, and the USS Forrestal before going to Navy School Command in Newport, RI.

Jack then served in Vietnam, later serving on the USS Eaton. He served with NMCB Nine in CA. And Cincsouth in Naples, Italy and later served on the USS Myles C. Fox and the USS Thomas C. Hart.

Jack later served with Comnavairlant, Norva, the Navy Recruting District and on the USS Detroit.

He served with the NRPTC Unit at Ohio State University and later on the USS San Diego.

Jack retired as a SK2 after 23 years with the Navy.

After he retired from the Navy, Jack went to Clarion University where he earned a four years Bachelor degree in two years in the field of Accounting.

When Jack was younger, he had two goals, to be a career military man and to be a CPA.

Jack later worked as an auditor for the Bureau of Schools until ill health forced him to retire in 2004.

Jack was married on July 12, 1969 in St. Joseph’s Church to the former Sally A. Clark and she survives.

They were married by the late Rev. James Weber.

Jack converted to Catholicism in 1969.

While living in Oil City, he was a member of St. Joseph Church.

He was a clown with Erie clowns, and enjoyed spending time with family and visiting friends.

Later in life, he enjoyed bird watching and crossword puzzles.

In addition to his wife, he survived by one son, Clark A. Fike & his wife Jodie of Fairview; 2 sisters, Sarah Gallagher of Cooperstown and Virginia Carter, a resident of the Caring Place; 2 brothers, James Fike & his wife Ann of Cooperstown and Donald Fike & his wife Debra of TN; a sister-in-law, Susan Nurss of Oil City; and in-laws, Peggy Fike of Oil City, Sam Fuller of WY, Nancy Fike of KS

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Clarence”Hirk” and W. John Fike; one sister Shirley Fuller; and in laws Clement Gallagher, Russell Carter and Robert Nurss and by many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M. Sunday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday in St. Joseph’s Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer, Presiding.
Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard in Calvary Cemetery.
