Rosalie “Rose” A. Astorino

Rosalie “Rose” A. Astorino, 76, of Walston passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.

Miss Astorino was born March 6, 1938 in Walston, a daughter of the late Charles and Angelina (Adams) Astorino. She was a lifetime resident of Walston and a devoted member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church where she served as sacristan for many years and a member of C D of A. Rosalie was a 1956 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and a graduate of Indiana University of PA. with a B.S. and a Masters Degree in Education.

She began her teaching career in Bradford and retired from Punxsutawney Area School District as a fourth grade and head teacher at Parkview Elementary. Rosalie was a member of several education organizations such as PSEA, NEA and PASR where she served a term as President. She was devoted to her students often playing softball with them at lunchtime.

She also belonged to a local softball team and a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins.

Rosalie was known as “Aunt Ro” to her six nieces, two nephews, three great nieces, five great nephews and one great great nephew. Survivors include her sister; Barbara Brink and husband Bob of Rossiter and her sister in law; Margaret “Peg” Astorino of Brookville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Annabelle Astorino and Mary Jane Gigliotti, brothers; Charles and Samuel Astorino and one niece Barbara Ann Aaron.

Friends will be received from 6-8 Saturday, January 24, and 2-4 & 6-8 Sunday, January 25, at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am Monday at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Walston with Msgr. Joseph Riccardo as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
