CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Pennsylvania American Water today issued a release today alerting customers to be aware of imposters posing as water utility employees to gain entry to their homes.

Last night, three individuals claiming to represent the water company approached a Greenville Pike homeowner in Clarion Township under the guise of “checking their water.” The homeowners denied the individuals from entering their home despite numerous attempts. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.

The company reminds customers that all Pennsylvania American Water service personnel wear uniforms, drive company-branded vehicles and wear photo identification badges with the company’s logo. Customers are urged to take time to examine the photo identification tag whenever a Pennsylvania American Water employee arrives at their home or business. The company does not accept payment at a customer’s house or business.

“Pennsylvania American Water is committed to safety for its employees and customers,” said the company in the release.

If a utility worker comes to your home and you are not expecting them, do not let them into your home without proper identification. Residents with any suspicions about the individual’s identity should call 9-1-1 immediately.
