L. Paul “Cud” McNaughton

McNaughton PhotoL. Paul “Cud” McNaughton, passed away at his home in Strattanville on February 5, 2015 at the age of 87.

Born in Strattanville on January 21, 1928, he was the son of the late Anson S. and Frieda (McCleary) McNaughton.

He graduated from Clarion High School.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served under General Douglas MacArthur as a sergeant in the message center in Tokyo after the surrender.

On April 25 1953, he married the former Loretta Novak, who survives.

He was known for years as the local barber in Strattanville.

He also worked as an equipment operator for PennDOT for many years.

He enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing and spending time on the Clarion River.

Mr. McNaughton was a member of the American Legion Post 66 in Clarion, Masonic Lodge 277 in Clarion, and the Scotish Rite Consistory.

In addition to his wife, Mr. McNaughton is survived by his son, Michael P. McNaughton and his wife Lisa of Strattanville; his daughters, Pamela K. Cyphert of Sligo, and Trudy Fryer and her husband Ed of Clarion; his seven grandchildren, Kristy Hagan, Brooke Gatesman, Tiffiny Edmonds, James Cyphert, Benjamin Cyphert, Joshua Fryer, and Alexandra Fryer; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Richard E. McNaughton of Strattanville, and a sister, Joan Miller of Wilmington NC.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McNaughton was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McNaughton.

At his request, there will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
