Salvatore V. (Sam) Venturella

Salvatore-Venturella-1423842047[1]Salvatore V. (Sam) Venturella, 92, of 527 Bouquin Circle, Oil City, died at 9:20 am, Friday, February 13, 2015, at Golden Living Center-Oil City.

Born June 11, 1922 in Oil City, he was a son of the late Gus and Rose Leta Venturella.

Sam was a 1940 graduate of Oil City High School and a 1941 graduate of Welch Business College.

He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army in the South Pacific and Philippine Islands. He was a First Sergeant with the 295th Joint Assault Signal Company and received two Bronze Service Stars.

Previously associated with the family owned food market on West First Street, he retired from the US Postal Service in 1984 after 22 years of service.

Sam was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Church.

He was a past commander of the James M Henderson Post 32 American Legion, a 4th degree member of the Oil City Knights of Columbus, a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, former member of the Senior Citizens Golf League, and a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

On November 15, 1950 he married the former Phyllis Mary Gatto, who preceded him in death on October 9, 2001.

Surviving are three sons, John Venturella and wife Anna of Palmyra, Richard Venturella and wife Bonita of Oil City, and Mark Venturella of Trenton OH; and six grandchildren, Annalouise Venturella, Daniel Venturella, Monica Venturella, Elyse Venturella, Emily Venturella and Matthew Venturella.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Venturella.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Monday in St. Stephen Church with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
