Staab PhotoMargaret M. “Margie” Staab of Staab Road, Strattanville, passed away on Thursday, February 26, at the McKinley Health Center. She was 92 years of age.

Born on April 10, 1922 in Beaver Township, Clarion County, Margie was the daughter of the late H. Burrel and Grace (Mong) Mays. She graduated from Memorial High School in Knox in 1938 at the age of 16.

On August 21, 1949, she married Raymond H. “Butch” Staab at the Providence Methodist Church. Theirs was the first wedding to be held in that church. Butch preceded her in death in 2006.

She moved to Clarion in 1940 and was employed by Phero’s Grocery Store. Later she was the bookkeeper for Clarion Newspapers. In 1964, she went to work for Bell Telephone as a telephone operator, retiring from AT&T in 1984 after 20 years of service.

Margie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion where she was an active member since 1952. Margie was a member of the Monday Morning study group, the United Methodist Women, in which she held various offices, and a member of the Caring Ministry team. She was a life member of the Verizon Telecom Pioneers. Margie served as Tax Collector for Strattanville borough for 12 years and was a volunteer at the Clarion Hospital.

Margie’s hobbies were knitting, crocheting, caring for her flowers and baking cookies. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her family. She knitted over 200 baby sweaters, with most of them being sold in the gift shop at the Clarion Hospital with proceeds going to the Hospital Foundation fund, while others were given as gifts.

Margie is survived by her son, James “Jim” Staab and his wife Sally of Clarion, and her daughter, Sharyn “Sherry” Simons and her husband Greg of Broadview Heights, OH, her grandchildren, Kurt Staab and wife Kriss of Slippery Rock, Megan Staab of Harrisburg, NC, and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Delaney Staab. She is also survived by one sister, Wilma Morrison and her husband Richard of Sun City Center, FL.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margie was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura A. Mays and Virginia Fornof, a brother Robert B. Mays, and two infant grandsons.

Margie sincerely believed a Christian heritage is the best legacy that can be left to our children and grandchildren. Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28th, from 6-8 p.m, and Sunday, March 1st, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. An additional visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 6th and Wood Street in Clarion from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, March 2nd, to be followed by funeral services at the church at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Deryl K. Larsen will officiate. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery.
