John Henry Hartzell, age 64, of Venus, passed away at his home on Friday, March 6, 2015, following an illness.

Born October 30, 1950, in Pine City, Clarion County, he was a son of the late Donald C. and Laura Viola Mays Hartzell.

He was employed by Joy Manufacturing in Franklin as a machinist.

John enjoyed hunting, archery hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Brian Hartzell and his wife, Robin, of Oil City; four granddaughters: Destiny Hartzell of Oil City; Sierra Lynn and her husband, Harley, of Clarksville, Tennessee; Kara Shaffer of Oil City and Nicole Weidle of Oil City and one grandson, Aden Shaffer of Oil City; John is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Larry Hartzell and his wife, Janet, of Oil City; Jerry L. “Jake” Hartzell and his wife, Kathy, of Venus; Carrie Sharrar and her husband, Larry, of Venus and Sally Hartzell of Venus along with numerous nieces and a nephew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kahle and Donald and a sister, Dolly.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in the funeral home with the Reverend Phillip Thomas officiating.

Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Shippenville.
