REDBANK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police say around 7:20 p.m. on March 7, a one-vehicle accident occurred on State Route 66, between Champion and Swartfager Roads, in Redbank Township, Clarion County.

According to police, 77-year-old Howard H. Shreckengost, of New Bethlehem, was traveling south on SR 66 when a deer ran out from the east berm. Shreckengost swerved his 2014 Chevrolet Silverado left in an attempt to miss the deer; however, the pickup struck the deer.

The vehicle then hit the east embankment and traveled approximately 85 feet before going airborne. The vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side and slid approximately 50 feet, rolled onto the roof, and turned clockwise 180 degrees before coming to a final rest on its roof in the northbound lane facing north, police say.

Clarion Ambulance transported Shreckengost to Kittanning Hospital for moderate injuries.

He was using a seat belt.

New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department, Clarion Ambulance, and Mark’s Towing assisted at the scene.
