Member_144311Sara E. McNany, 100, of Crawford Corners Rd., Emlenton, Scrubgrass Twp., Venango County, went to be with the Lord, Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2015 at Orchard Manor in Grove City.

Sara was born in Scrubgrass Twp. on September 2, 1914. She was the daughter of Arthur J. and Anna Hagerty Milford.

Sara was a 1933 graduate of Emlenton High School. Mrs. McNany was a long time member of the Scrubgrass Stone Church in Emlenton and had served the church as a deacon and helped with Bible school.

She was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. Mrs. McNany served as the secretary of the Scrubgrass Cemetery board of directors for many years, and was the manager of the Scrubgrass Senior Center for 10 years. In her earlier years, she had been a member of the Scrubgrass Grange and the Emlenton Civic Club. She and her husband Charles had owned and operated a family farm in Scrubgrass Twp. for many years.

Sara enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and flower gardening.

Sara was a well-known and talented quilter. For many years, she participated in the Scrubgrass Stone Church ladies quilting group that met every Thursday morning. She had made quilts for all of her family members and many friends and sent quilts to Alaska and California.

She was married by the Rev. J.R. Laughner in Scrubgrass Twp. on December 21, 1934 to Charles R. McNany. Mr. McNany preceded her in death on January 9, 2004.

Surviving is a daughter, Shirley Nevel; three sons, Russell A. McNany and his wife Marlene, Harold E. McNany and his wife Linda, Paul E. McNany and his wife Louise, all of Emlenton. Fourteen grand-children survive, Brenda Rankin and her husband, John, of Emlenton, Jeffrey Nevel and his wife, Lori, of Pittsburgh, Richard McNany and his wife Ann, of Saint Petersburg, Frank McNany and his wife, Cheryl of Emlenton, Karen Carmichael and her husband, Alan, of Rimersburg, Mark Nevel and his wife, Jamie, of Emlenton, Gregory and his wife Laurie, Bradley and his wife Lindsay, and Chris McNany and his wife Lacy, all of Emlenton, Douglas McNany and his wife Lynna, of Harrisville, Regan McNany, of Arkansas, Roger Parsons, of California, Cheryl and Sheila McNany, of Texas, as well as 27 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Sara was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. McNany; a great-grandson, Jeremy Rankin; three brothers, Burton, Arthur, and David (Bill) Milford; and three sisters, Jean Milliren, Margaret McGinnis and Georgie Thompson; and a son-in-law, Harold “Pete” Nevel.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 12 noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Scrubgrass Stone Church, Stone Church Rd., Emlenton.

A funeral service will follow from the Church at 1 p.m. with lay pastors Charles Stowe and Linda Gerstner, officiating.

Interment will be in Scrubgrass Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mrs. McNany’s memory may be made to the Scrubgrass Stone Church, C/o Marlene McNany, 108 Quick Ln., Emlenton, PA, 16373-2518.
