C. Richard “Dick” Burchfield

171c2bd1-99aa-4b17-b84f-534b00617997[1]C. Richard “Dick” Burchfield, 78, of Sandyston, originally of Strattanville, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at home.

Born on March 30, 1936, in Strattanville, Pa., Mr. Burchfield moved to Easton, Pa. in 1962, and has resided in Sandyston since 1980.

Mr. Burchfield proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the destroyer Richard E. Kraus. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1955. He worked at Selective Insurance Company of America. Mr. Burchfield started as an underwriter in the Easton, Pa. office in 1962. He retired after 30-plus years as an assistant vice president in 1993.

Son of the late Victor M. and Gertrude L. Burchfield, Mr. Burchfield was also predeceased by two brothers, Victor and Merle Glen Burchfield, and two sisters, Ethel Clinger and Patricia McClurg.

Mr. Burchfield is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gertrude; son Richard and his wife, Mary Jo Burchfield, of Stillwater; daughter Veronica and her husband, David Danko, of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; six grandchildren Richard and wife, Heather Burchfield, Maria Amella, Kimberly Burchfield and fiancé, Nicholas Tinker, Andrew, Jenna and Daniel Danko; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Amella and Bradley Burchfield. Mr. Burchfield is also survived by two sisters, Dorian Goheen and husband, Paul, and Jacqueline Garver; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville, NJ, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace R. C. Church, 209 Route 206, Branchville.

Interment will follow in Branchville Cemetery, Pines Road, Frankford.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
