Richard William “Ric” Swendsen

Richard-Swendsen-1426165278[1]Richard William “Ric” Swendsen, 63, of Cooperstown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday March 11, 2015.

A son of the late William J. Swendsen and Alberta Dunn Swendsen he was born in Sussex, NJ on November 25, 1951. He was a 1970 graduate of Damascus High School in Damascus, PA. He then received an associate degree in Agricultural Mechanics from Penn State University.

In his lifetime, Ric had diverse employment experiences. He had driven for Baker’s Transportation, operated Hallstown Marine rentals, for a time owned and operated Cooperstown Hardware and most recently had been employed by Engels Trucking.

Ric was a “people person”. He was always ready with a helping hand, a visit, and quick to share his faith in God. He had a love of the outdoors, enjoyed reading, and John Deere tractors.

On April 3, 1993 he married the former Cindy Shearer. She survives along with his mother Alberta I. Swendsen of Milanville, two brothers Gary James Swendsen and Harvey Lee Swendsen and his wife Carla all of Milanville, and his sister Lori Ellen Heckman and her husband Perry of Mohrsville. Also surviving are his brother-in-law David Shearer and his wife Lou Marie of Franklin, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, his first wife, Karen Schweighofer Swendsen, who died in 1991, 3 brothers Lloyd Bruce Swendsen, Frederick Russell Swendsen and Dale Howard Swendsen. He was also preceded by his maternal grandparents Frederick and Bessie Dunn and paternal grandparents Russell and Edna Swendsen.

Friends will be received in the Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 312 W. Park St. from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. Funeral Services will be held in the Polk Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Diane Whitman and Rev. Rachel Johns officiating.

Interment will follow in the Cooperstown Cemetery.
