Member_144670Donna L. VanWormer, 80, of Causeway Drive, Franklin, died at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

She was born on July 17, 1934 in Lamartine, Clarion County to the late Leroy and Rozella (Alden) Shaner.

Mrs. VanWormer enjoyed watching television, playing bingo, and attending yard sales.

She cherished the times she spent with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Donna was married on September 12, 1950 to Robert B. VanWormer, who preceded her in death on November 1, 1998.

Surviving are her children: John VanWormer and wife Janet, Donna Porter and husband Robert, and Linda Runninger and her husband Roger, all of Sugarcreek, Richard VanWormer and companion Barb Heckathorn of Seneca, James VanWormer and his wife Dawn of Oil City, Rose VanWormer of Seneca, Terri VanWormer of Seneca, Merle VanWormer and wife Jamie of Oil City, Debra Edwards and her husband Duke of Seneca, and Shirley Deloe and her husband Terry of Knox; twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Donna was looking forward to the upcoming births of two new great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a sister, Diane Strotman of Easton, Maryland; and two brothers, Burton and Robert Shaner, both of Delaware.

Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael P. Runninger; five brothers, Donald, Merle, Millard, Homer, and Richard Shaner; two sisters, Hazel Guthrie and Mary Eleanor Shaner; and a son-in-law, Roger Gourley.

Friends will be received Friday, March 20th from 2 — 4 and 7 — 9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held Saturday (March 21st) at 11 a.m. in the Seneca United Methodist Church, 196 East State Road in Seneca, with the Rev. Janet Pratt, the church’s coordinator of congregational care, officiating.

Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shippenville.
