ThumbnailKathryn Louise Longwell, Bay Village, OH, formerly of Franklin, 72, passed away at 11:32 p.m. Wednesday, March 18th, at Metro Health Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born January 24, 1943 in Greenville, PA, Kathryn was the daughter of the late George Philip Sr. and Gladys (Peterson) Axtell.

She attended Greenville area schools.

On June 28, 1991, Kathryn married Larry Hays Longwell, who preceded her in death on May 15, 2009.

Kathryn resided in Franklin until December 2014. During that time, she was employed at Anderson Furniture store until her retirement in 2014.

Kathryn was a long time member of the Faith Baptist Church in Seneca. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her many dear friends, children, grandchildren, many other loved ones, and her dog Moses (who also attended church with her). Kathryn was an avid gardner and bird watcher. She also enjoyed Nascar racing.

Kathryn is survived by her son, Dean Sherbondy and his companion, Rose Brettell, of Greenville; her three daughters, Michelle Rafferty and her husband, Brian, of Stoneboro, Holly Beck and her husband, Roger, of Jamestown, and Tracey Carlisle and her husband, Edgar (Mitch), of Cleveland OH; and her nine grandchildren.

She is also survived by her step-daughter, Pam Riffe and her husband, Larry, of Transfer; her brother, Arthur Axtell and his wife, Bea, of Greenville; three sisters, Phyllis Hawks and her husband, Howard, of Warren OH, Donna Young of Winslow AZ, and Grace Battles and her husband, Doug, of Transfer.

She is additionally survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Jane Sollinger of Oil City.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by her four sisters, Margaret Arch, Sarah Junk, Marilyn Tustin, and her infant sister, Shirley Axtell; her brother, George Philip Axtel Jr.; and her granddaughter, Katie Lynn Gilmore.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Lively Lane Kennels, 6424 US 322, Franklin PA 16323.

Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Saturday, March 21st, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon).

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, at the Faith Baptist Church in Seneca, with Rev. Larry Williams, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be at Rockland Cemetery.
