02cddfcd1e2b9cc8Harland E. Rhoads, 99, of Shippenville went to be with his lord and savior Friday March 20, 2015 at the Golden Living Center with his loving family at his side.

Born November 2, 1915, in Ashland Township he was the son of Clarence and Ethel Rhoads. On April 4, 1936 Harland married Catherine McGinnis who preceded him in death in 1998. Harland farmed in the area until the late sixties.

At that time he and his wife started serving as missionaries with the Society of Indian Missions on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. As missionaries they also served in Arizona, New York, Michigan and Canada. After retiring he and his wife moved to Ohio to live near their sons. Harland returned to Pennsylvania after his wife passed away.

Harland is survived by his children Ethel Reed of Shippenville, Harland Leo (Priscilla) Rhoads of Wheelersburg, OH, Mary Kay (Jack) Hartzell of O’Fallon, MO, John Paul (Diane) Rhoads of Dallas, TX, David (Tammy) Rhoads of Clovis, CA, Thomas (Melvina) Rhoads of Coshocton, OH, Naomi (Ward) French of Colorado Springs, CO, Timothy Rhoads of Colorado Springs, CO, Phillip (Carleitta) Rhoads of Carroltown, OH, Henryetta (James) Price of Kentucky, forty grandchildren, 97 great grandchildren and 24 great great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers Grant Rhoads and Norman Rhoads and a sister Eva Jane Keely.

Along with his wife and parents Harland was preceded in death by two children Karen Rhoads and Stephen Mark Rhoads and 5 brothers and sisters Donald Rhoads, Karl Rhoads, Romaine Rhoads, Mary Agnus Minich and Arthur Rhoads.

The family will received friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, March 25, and from 10 to 11 am, Thursday, March 26 at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Donald Adams officiating.

Interment will follow at the Perry Chapel Cemetery in Shippenville. In lieu flowers the family request memorials are made to Charitable Deeds and Services, 98 Hickory Nut Lane, Knox, PA, 16232, Highland Oaks / WRC Senior Services, 985 Route 28, Brookville, PA 15825 or the charity of one’s choice.
