Tionesta, Tidioute Students Participate in National Archery in Schools Program State Archery Tournament

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Students from Taylor Diversion Programs (TDP) in Tionesta and the Tidioute Community Charter School (TCCS) in Tidioute, participated in the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) State Archery Tournament held at Penn State University in State College, On Friday, March 13.

In addition to TDP and TCCS student representation, students from 850 schools across the nation participated. As members of the NASP Team, both TDP and Tidioute students/coaches vigorously prepared for this national competition.

They received the following letter from Janet Zimmerman, an HTE Instructor/Range Official from the Pennsylvania Game Commission:

“I am writing in regards to your school and the NASP program….As a range official we get to meet and work with many students and coaches throughout the competition….as I was observing the students in one particular flight, I could not help but notice the coaches and their interaction with those same students. There was clearly something different about both…Though a little unsure of how the competition worked, unlike many, your students were not afraid to ask me questions and I was impressed that they did so. I took notice how the coaches encouraged and uplifted the students before and after each shoot. There was clearly more than just words that were exchanged. There were relationships that were being built. I remember standing there thinking “This school is what it’s all about. This school knows how to teach not just academics but the things that are important in life. This school will turn out kids with character and integrity. This school has it.” Your coaches and/or (teachers) are exceptional. Your students are exceptional and respond positively to your teachers. Many did a fine job in the competition. I was most impressed with the affirmation, character building, and the building of self-esteem that I saw going on. Interacting with those from your school, not once but twice for me that day, absolutely without a doubt made my day….I look forward to seeing you next year!”
